The International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) is an annual competition in astronomy and astrophysics for high school students worldwide to strengthen ties between different nations and promote the exchange of knowledge as one of the twelve International Science Olympiads. The 19th IOAA will take place in Hanoi, Vietnam, from 25 September to 5 October 2026 (IOAA 2026).
IOAA 2026 is jointly organised by the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam, the Department of Education and Training of Hanoi, and Phenikaa University - the official host venue of the event. Located in Vietnam’s vibrant capital city, Phenikaa University provides modern academic facilities and an inspiring environment for future astronomers to compete, learn, and connect.
The successful hosting and organisation of the IOAA 2026 are supported by Vietnamese educational authorities and national partners who are committed to fostering scientific excellence, nurturing talent in STEM fields, and promoting international academic collaboration.
In 2026, the IOAA travels to Hanoi, Vietnam, continuing its mission of connecting young astronomers and educators from all over the world under one sky.
